Have you ever experienced discouragement? I mean the type of discouragement that makes you want to quit pursuing your dreams? Job seemed like he was there for a little while after his loses, Peter was there after his failures, I have been there after many dreams have been challenged on every angle, and I am sure you have been there a time or two.
I often have to remind myself just how faithful the Lord has been to me. Also, how every aspect of His plan is at work in my life. Just today, while spending some time with Jesus, I was reminded that there has never been a day that I have been in want. And this beautiful scripture came to mind.... (same as mentioned above)
For me this Word remains true after spending the majority of the last almost 18 years ministering in Asian Countries while believing God for provision. In 2000, the day after our wedding, Christina and I departed for Manila not really knowing what to expect. We left with a few suitcases and we have had to do that a few times over as we transitioned into four new Countries. Each time we transitioned we found ourselves having to give away much of our unneeded *stuff* as the Lord had always been more than faithful to provide all our physical needs. Last August when we transitioned again we literally furnished offices, an apartment, gave items to our orphanage and friends homes, and still have special items left in storage awaiting the day to be reunited. We have never lacked any material good thing needed for life.
However, the idea still gets into our head that by serving the Lord, whether with our life and even more so in ministry, we will be left in want. I was sharing with a young man, in a critical ministry decision making moment in his life, that he did not have to go back to a career just because he was afraid of not being able to support his soon to be wife or the type of life that was fully provided for. Let us just get it into our hearts that God is more than able to provide for our needs. There was another man who was trying so desperately to go after God in the ministry but His wife could not get it into her heart that God was big enough to provide for their family and their kid's education needs. That decision, to turn away from ministry because of money, created so many barriers in their personal life, church life and relationship with their Pastor. The decision eventually pushed him back into a career working insane hours, out of even lay ministry and eventually into another church probably because of the loss of face. I suppose it was too much to be reminded of week after week.
2 Peter 1: 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,
Our physical and material life demands are often what grabs our attention the most. However, the same is true with the Presence of God in our life. As much as God has been faithful with providing food, clothing, shelter, and more in my life so He has been more faithful to provide Himself so that we would never be in want. Actually God Himself is the only thing that we cannot dsire too much of. Yet we often desire and plan our next vacation for longer and more intently than we do making sure we get into God's presence today. I am guilty!
Hebrews 13: 5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say,
God Himself promised never to leave us so that we would never be in want. Today take a moment and get intentional about spending time with Jesus. Make the time and He will show up every time.
