Who Am I

James Weidner III   -

2 Samuel 7:18-22 (NKJV) 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 19 And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD? 20 Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord GOD, know Your servant. 21 For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them. 22 Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Being Thankful.

Not always easy yet, always required.

Many times in this thankful journey we are Waiting for grace to kick in.

Stay steady stay believing and keep walking faithfully through every open doors.

Thankful for all the Lord has done.

David went in and sat.

2 Samuel 7:(NKJV) 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD;

What is man kind of attitude.

and he said: “Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

Psalms 8:3-5 (NKJV) 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, 4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Thankful that the Lord came and visited each one of us.

Considering all the planning and organizing it requires to be mindful of each of us – equally.

19 And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD;

It may be a small thing to God to organize a life but He took the moment to do it.

and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come.

Thank Him for all He has done and then you will see more clearly all He is doing right now in your life.

Offering a sacrifice of thanksgiving.

Leviticus 7:11-12 (NKJV) 11 “This is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings which he shall offer to the LORD: 12 If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer, with the sacrifice of thanksgiving

A thanksgiving offering.

Thankfulness was/is built into the sacrificial system.

At times a thankful heart is the sacrifice we need to offer.

Ela… Meaning that even before you can see the why or get your answer we are thankful for the faithfulness of the Lord.

The word “sacrifice” means the surrendering of a possession as an offering to the Lord. It means giving something up – something that we value – and we offer it to the Lord, to worship and honor him. The Thank Offering was costly, it required fine flour and oil.

What are we sacrificing when we offer a thanksgiving offering?

We are sacrificing our selfishness.

We are sacrificing or greed.

Our tendency may be to retaliate,

It may be to withdrawn,

Or to look for blame,

When we really need to be looking for God.

One of the ways to combat a pity party is engage the weapon of a thankful heart.

There is nothing anyone can do to you when you go forth with thankfulness overflowing from your life.

Precious promises given to each of us.

2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV) by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV) 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

no matter where we come from God shows equality of opportunity relative to your context.

Ela… again tell the story of the Manila squatter shack visit. They were so happy and so blessed I would have never known they lived in a squatter shack had I not visited them.

We have been given these promises.

So let us receive these promises.

The promise is our way of escape.

The promise itself is the path.

Because He who gave the promise is trustworthy and true.

The thankful person will always walks away with so much more.

Like 17:16 and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

Luke 17:19 (KJV) And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

    1. It wasn’t a religious ceremony or even a healed body that this samaritan really needed…
    2. What did the nine leave with?
      1. 1.2.1.  The Nine left with just a healing.
      2. 1.2.2. Ela… there healing was precious and important but a physical healing alone is not what we are seeking.
    3. 1.3. He like all of us needed to be made whole…
      1. 1.3.1.  And this wholeness was found at the feet of Jesus.
      2. 1.3.2. Here we are, all foreigners, needing to be found at the feet of Jesus.
    4. 1.4. The healing is not the end all.
    5. God heals people all the time for many different reasons:
      1. 1.5.1.  #1 he is just good that is what He does.
      2. 1.5.2. To bring glory to his name.
      3. 1.5.3. He is trying to get people’s attention.
      4. 1.5.4. He moves on behalf of the prayers of a loved one.
      5. 1.5.5. He moves on behalf of one’s faith.
    6. What did the 1 leave with?
      1. 1.6.1. One left with so much more.
      2. 1.6.2. (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible) We may look for God to meet us with mercy, when we are found in the way of obedience. Only one of those who were healed returned to give thanks. It becomes us, like him, to be very humble in thanksgivings, as well as in prayers. Christ noticed the one who thus distinguished himself, he was a Samaritan. The others only got the outward cure, he alone got the spiritual blessing.

Conclusion: God’s promises work.
